AN attack on cars in north Belfast during a key soccer match "will only cause anger in the community", Sinn Féin has warned.

The windows of three cars were smashed outside Seaview Stadium on the Shore Road last night.

The attack happened as Belfast Celtic, based in west Belfast, and Newington, based in the north of the city, were playing in the Steel & Sons cup semi-final.

Both teams have a predominantly nationalist fan base. Seaview, the home ground of Crusaders, is in a predominantly unionist area.

Up to 2,000 fans were understood to have been watching the match.

It is understood the attacks happened shortly after the match kicked off at 7.45pm.

The other Steel & Sons semi-final between Larne Tech OB and Linfield Swifts was played last Friday night.

It is understood no cars were damaged during that match.

Sinn Féin North Belfast MLA Carál Ní Chuilín said she was alarmed by the attacks.

"I condemn those behind these attacks on property – there is no place for it," she said.

"There has been a lot of hard work to build relations through the sharing of facilities and this type of activity will only cause anger in the community.

"Police are now reviewing footage and I would appeal to anyone with information to report it."
