Two men arrested after Co Armagh police car chase

TWO men were arrested after a police car chase in Co Armagh in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident took place in Newtownhamilton around 2.10am.

Police were on mobile patrol on the Keady Road when they were alerted to a black Audi being driven at excessive speed.

Half an hour later, the car was spotted on the Armagh Road.

Police signalled for the driver to stop but it continued on, colliding with the police car and then driving off.

After a short pursuit on foot two men aged 22 and 24 were arrested.

Chief Inspector Barney O'Connor: "Our police vehicle suffered slight damage to its side, and thankfully, our two officers who were in the car were not injured."

The men, who were detained on suspicion of a number of traffic-related offences including dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol in breath and failing to stop for police, have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
