Firearm and ammunition found in north Belfast security alert

A GUN and ammunition were seized yesterday by police following a security alert in north Belfast.

The Lower Regent Street was closed for period at the junction with Trinity Street and Carrick Hill after a suspicious object was discovered.

Police and bomb disposal officers attended the scene as the alarm was raised yesterday afternoon.

The PSNI said a "suspected firearm and a quantity of ammunition have been taken away for further forensic examinations".

Police appealed for anyone with information to phone them on 101, quoting reference number 449 29/10/19, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
