VICTIMS’ campaigner Raymond McCord has said he has been told by police that loyalists are planning to kill him.

Mr McCord’s son Raymond was beaten to death by a UVF gang in November 1997.

Some of those believed to have been involved in the brutal murder include police informers.

In 2007 a major Police Ombudsman investigation established Special Branch officers colluded with the gang behind the murder.

Since his son’s death Mr McCord has campaigned for the truth about his son’s killing to be made public.

Three weeks ago the north Belfast man launched a civil action against seven men in relation to the murder of his son.

Mr McCord (65) said he was contacted by police and told about the threat on Monday night when attended a PSNI station in Newtownabbey in Co Antrim.

He said he was advised on his personal security.

Mr McCord has received death threats in the past.

“I am taking it seriously but it’s not going to stop me from what I am doing relating to my son’s case and other victims,” he said.

A spokesman for the PSNI said it does not discuss the security of individuals and "no inference should be drawn from this".

He added that if it receives "information that a person’s life may be at risk, we will inform them accordingly".
