ONE person was taken to hospital after a crash on the Sydenham bypass this morning which led to traffic chaos.

The collision, which is believed to have involved a car and van, caused the closure of the Bangor-bound lanes of the busy route.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service sent one emergency crew to the scene and one patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.

Traffic was diverted through the Harbour Estate following the closure of the bypass at the junction of Dee Street causing severe delays around the city.
