Derry man (40) returned for trial on explosives charges

Gary Burke (40) was charged with possessing explosives with intent to endanger life

A Derry man has been returned for trial to the crown court on explosives charges.

Gary Burke (40) of Glenowen Park appeared at a preliminary enquiry at Derry Magistrates Court today.

He was charged with possessing explosives with intent to endanger life on December 13 2017.

Burke is also accused of possessing explosives in suspicious circumstances and having articles for use in terrorism again on the same date.

It was accepted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions.

Burke said he did not wish to call any witnesses or make any statement at this stage.

He was returned for trial to the Crown Court on January 17 and released on bail.
