MUSIC is filling the air in Derry this week as a choral singing festival takes place in the city.

The City of Derry International Choir Festival is described as a "joyous celebration of choral music-making".

The five-day festival involves school, local, national and international choirs taking part in competitions, concerts, pop-up performances and educational workshops.

This year's line-up sees choirs from as far afield as Colombia, Estonia, Norway, Wales, Latvia, Finland, Germany and Ireland participating.

The City of Derry International Choir Festival, which runs until Sunday, has also teamed up with local choir Allegri to create a brand new fringe festival.

The inaugural Every Voice Fringe Festival has already put on kids' workshops, a sacred concert in First Derry Presbyterian Church and two gala concerts in Derry and Strabane.

For the remainder of the five-day festival, there are performances from visiting choirs in venues such as Foyleside, The Craft Village, City Hotel, Altnagelvin Hospital.

Ten churches will also play host to visiting choirs during Sunday morning services as part of the festival's Sacred Trail.

All community concerts and choral trail performances are free. Tickets for all evening concerts are on sale from the Millennium Forum. For further information, visit www. derrychoirfest.com.
