A BALLYGAWLEY man is to stand trial for multiple sexual offences against a child including rape, allegedly committed in a single incident over two years ago.

Appearing for a committal hearing at Dungannon Magistrates Court was Ryan Allen (23) of Errigal Road who faces four charges involving a girl and allegedly occurring on August 8, 2016.

It is alleged Allen intentionally caused the child to engage in sexual activity, leading to two counts of rape and a further for sexual contact.

Dressed in a navy suit, he confirmed he understood the charges against him.

A lawyer appearing for the Public Prosecution Service said there is a case to answer, which was agreed by Deputy District Judge Gerry Trainor.

On being asked if he wished to call witnesses or give evidence on his own behalf Allen replied, “Not at this time.”

Judge Trainor ordered the senior police officer in the case to formally advise what bail terms should be imposed.

She stated Allen should reside at his current address and no other and must have no contact with the victim or any witnesses in the case.

In addition, Judge Trainor set bail in the sum of £500.

Allen, who was accompanied to court by a number of family members, is to appear for arraignment at Dungannon Crown Court next month.

Members of the complainant's family were also in attendance at the rear of the court, accompanied by a police liaison officer.
