A MAN and his six-year-old son were at the centre of a rescue operation on Slemish mountain.

North West Mountain Rescue team received a call at about 5.20pm on Sunday.

Team leader Joe Dowdall said the pair had been located.

"We mobilised the team to go to Slemish to start to look for them. As for the conditions they would be facing there is frost and ice," he said.

At that height, he added, there would be a wind blowing "which would make it quite cold".

He said they were on the steep part of the mountain and the team planned to secure them with ropes before assisting them down.

"They are uninjured, probably a bit cold," he added.
