AN estate agent has defended continuing to sell a housing development with a 'moat and bridge' despite it facing enforcement action amid flooding fears.

Thirty semi-detached houses are being constructed as part of the new development on Moor Road outside Coalisland in Co Tyrone.

Built in an area prone to flooding, the development is surrounded on two sides by a water trench and accessed via a bridge.

Planning permission was granted as part of measures aimed at reducing the flood risk to neighbouring land and property.

However, planners are pursuing enforcement proceedings over concerns that all the required flood-prevention measures have not been completed.

The developer Western Buildings Systems (WBS) has dismissed concerns, saying it is awaiting approvals from roads officials to finish the works.

But neighbouring residents fear their homes, which have suffered flood damage in the past, could be at even greater risk.

Houses in Moor Park are continuing to be marketed for sale by Martin Shortt estate agents.

In a statement firm manager Cathaoir Corr criticised news coverage of concerns over Moor Park, saying it is a "perfectly good development".

He also praised developers WBS for "providing housing, creating numerous jobs and benefitting the local economy".

He added: "The Moor Park development once again offers affordable quality homes in a locality where there is a great housing shortage.

"The development is yet to be finished and is therefore a work in progress."

Mid Ulster council said: "Consideration is presently being given by the council on how to progress with enforcement proceedings."
