A RALLY is to be held at Stormont today to lobby assembly members about plans to close 10 residential care homes.

Unison have organised the event to highlight their opposition to the shutting down of the NHS homes.

A delegation of residents and relatives from the homes targeted for closure, along with Unison members and representatives will meet MLAs to air their views.

Joe McCusker from Unison said they will be "seeking a pledge from MLAs to stand with us in our opposition to NHS residential care home closures and to send a clear message to the health minister that he needs to reverse his policy of closing the homes".

"We cannot afford to walk away from the care needs of our elders. Neither can our politicians."

The rally will assemble at Stormont steps at 11am.
