THE body of a Co Antrim man who died in Ibiza is due to be brought back to Ireland tomorrow where a second post-mortem examination is due to take place.

Alan Drennan's remains will be flown to Dublin where the examination will take place after his family last week questioned the findings of the first post-mortem carried out on the Spanish island.

Relatives of the 21-year-old from Newtownabbey have called for answers amid allegations he was beaten by Spanish police hours before he was found dead in his hotel bedroom.

Friends of the mechanic claim he suffered head injuries after being beaten by officers at the airport when they arrived in Ibiza on July 18.

His friends said Mr Drennan alleged he was beaten by officers from the Guardia Civil after being taken into custody at the airport following the flight over.

The group all went out partying that night, but the next day Mr Drennan was found dead in his room.

A solicitor representing the family said on Friday they were in protracted discussions with Spanish, British and Irish authorities and consular officials to ensure the "precise circumstances" of the death are "clearly established".

Mr Drennan's remains are expected to be brought back to Dublin tomorrow with the help of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund.

Tests carried out by Spanish authorities concluded he died from natural causes, but those findings have been questioned by the Drennan family.

It is understood an immediate post mortem is to be carried out by the Irish state pathologist, following a request from the young man's family.

However, it is believed it could take six weeks for the results to be known.

The PSNI is also assisting Spanish police in its investigation of the death.
