A pensioner is due to appear in court after an imitation firearm was allegedly brandished by a man in Co Antrim.

Video footage circulated online showed a man climbing a ladder towards an Ulster flag flying from a lamp-post.

The video shows the man being challenged before he appears to brandish a black imitation handgun, which he holds aloft.

He then places the imitation weapon away before continuing to climb the ladder.

It happened in Whitehead on Friday night.

In a post on social media, Alliance MLA Danny Donnelly said it was “very concerning”.

“I have been made aware of a video of an incident where a gun was flashed in public in Whitehead last night that has been on shared social media,” he wrote.

“This is obviously very concerning for people living the area.

“I know the PSNI are aware and are investigating.”

Police later said a 66-year-old man had been arrested.

“Detectives investigating the content of a video circulating online in the Whitehead area on Friday evening, 7th June have charged a man to court,” a PSNI spokeswoman said.

“The 66-year-old has been charged with possession of an imitation firearm and is due to appear before Ballymena Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 4th July.”
