Tyrone pair appear in court on cruelty charges relating to toddler

The case against Lesley Stock has been listed for a preliminary inquiry at Belfast Magistrates Court in December
The pair are charged with wilfully exposing a child to unnecessary suffering or injury to health

A man and woman have appeared in court in relation to child cruelty charges dating back to an incident involving a toddler.

The accused who are both aged in their twenties but cannot be named are jointly charged with wilfully exposing a child to unnecessary suffering or injury to health on August 30 last year.

A police officer aware of the facts of the case told Strabane Magistrates Court the charges could be connected.

No details surrounding the circumstances of the alleged offending were disclosed during the short hearing.

Both accused were remanded on £500 bail with strict conditions which includes a ban on contact with each other and the child.

They must also reside at addresses known to police and the woman is banned from attending a named medical facility without approval and accompaniment by Social Services.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan warned the pair to adhere to all bail conditions as: “These are very serious charges.”

The case will return to court on March 21.
