The PSNI have used a baton round during the arrests of three men following a report of a disturbance at a house in west Belfast this morning.

Police were called to the property in Whitecliff Crescent shortly before 5am after receiving the report that men were at the house armed with knives and wooden bats.

A car was damaged and threats to kill were made to a person inside the house.

As one man was arrested, a baton round was used - described by police as an ‘attenuating energy projectile’.

Chief Inspector Claire Hamilton said: “Officers attended the scene and arrested three men, all aged in their 30s. They remain in police custody at this time. As is normal procedure, the office of the Police Ombudsman has been informed following the use of the AEP.

“Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident, to contact police on 101.”
