Police are treating sectarian graffiti daubed on a bookmakers shop in south Belfast as a “hate crime”.

Paint was thrown at the Ladbrokes premises on the Donegall Road and the words ‘Taigs out’ sprayed on an outer wall.

A PSNI spokesman told The Irish News that the criminal damage was reported to police on Wednesday.

“Shortly after 11pm on Wednesday night, a passing patrol observed that paint had been thrown over the shutters of a bookmakers shop and that a sectarian slogan had been sprayed on a wall of the premises,” he said.

“The matter is being treated as a hate crime and officers would ask anyone with information to contact officers at Lisburn Road on 101.“
