Masked and armed men entered four licensed premises, including the bar of St Canice’s GAA Club where an under age presentation was taking place in a function room upstairs.

The men reportedly issued warnings about drug dealing and allegedly mentioned being members of the IRA.

An investigation remains ongoing and, as part of this, police “want to speak to anyone who has information on the whereabouts or movement of a white Peugeot Partner van bearing the registration MK62 POA”, a PSNI spokesperson said.

The presentation event, involving around 100 children and teenagers from the club’s under 11.5 - 17.5 teams, and their parents, was taking place in an upstairs function room when the gang entered a downstairs bar.

It is believed that one of the masked men was carrying a handgun, while the others carried an iron bar and sledgehammer.

A 58-year-old man appeared on Tuesday before Antrim Magistrates Court sitting in Ballymena charged in connection with the incident.
