Neighbours have expressed shock following the sudden death of a woman in north Belfast.

The death occurred in the Shore Road area in the early hours of Tuesday, and it is understood one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police remain at the scene of the death, with a house cordoned off opposite Loughside Park.

It is understood police arrived at the house after midnight and made the arrest.

The woman who has died is believed to be in her 60s.

A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, told the Irish News she saw emergency services at the property.

“My son came into my room and said something was going on outside. We saw the lights and police there.

“When we saw the cordon, we knew something terrible had happened.”

She added of the death: “It’s hard to take in.”

DUP North Belfast MLA Phillip Brett told the Irish News: “There is complete shock in the area at this incident; it’s a very difficult time for the community.

“Our thoughts are with all those who have been impacted by this.”

A PSNI spokesperson said officers were “investigating the circumstances surrounding a sudden death in the Shore Road area of north Belfast this morning”.
