New Year’s Day babies: Parents mark the start of 2024 with bundles of joy

Seconds after the bells chimes for the start of 2024 and the first babies of the year were born in Northern Ireland.

Parents across the north celebrated the start of the new year with the birth of a child with the first babies arriving just after midnight.

At Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry, Kate Gunnes and her partner Joe Campbell from Greysteel welcomed the arrival of their baby daughter.

Molly was born just 20 seconds after it turned midnight on New Year’s Day, weighing 7lb 7oz.

Marisa McBride gave birth to baby Isaac at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast with the little tot weighing 7lbs.

He made his arrival just 40 seconds after midnight.

Baby Alfie was next to make his entrance into the world at the RVH maternity unit to the delight of his parents Sophie Moulds and dad Harry.

The baby boy arrived at 12.43am on New Year’s Day weighing 8lbs and 4oz.

At the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald, there were also new arrivals born on the first day of 2024.

Among them was baby Jude Reid, who arrived at 9.53am and weighed 91bs 9oz.

In the Republic, one of the first arrivals was a baby boy born at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin shortly after midnight.



Parents Nicole and Robert Emmett, from Ashbourne in Co Meath, welcomed Arlo Robert Emmett at 00.04am.

In Co Donegal, there were also early arrivals after the New Year bells chimes with baby Amelia born at Letterkenny Hospital at 00.13am.

The little tot, daughter of Danielle and Andrew from St Johnston, weighed 8.1 pounds.
