The man killed in a collision in Limavady at the height of Storm Isha on Sunday has been named locally as Peter Kirk from Greysteel.

Mr Kirk, who was in his sixties, died when his Vauxhall Vivaro van was involved in a collision with a fallen tree and another vehicle at Broad Road, Limavady.

A death notice was placed for the married father-of-two, although funeral arrangements have not yet been finalised. A police spokesman said the accident occurred around 9.45pm on Sunday.

The spokesman said: “The male driver of the other van involved, a Citreon Berlingo has been taken to hospital for treatment.”

Co Derry GAA club Faughanvale GAC expressed its “heartfelt” sympathies to Mr Kirk’s family.

In a post on social media, the club said: “The committee and members of St Mary’s Faughanvale GAA are saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Peter Kirk.”



Police have appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision or any motorist with dash-cam footage to come forward.
