A road closure remains in place after a livestock lorry overturned on the M1 this morning.

Around 40 cows had been in the lorry, with the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service reporting that a small number have had to be put down.

Police said the closure remains in place on the M1 near junction 13 between Tamnamore and The Birches.

Those travelling city bound on the M1 are advised to leave the motorway at junction 15, the Moy Roundabout, and travel through Armagh before joining the M12 at Portadown.

The opposite applies to those travelling countrywards.

It is reported that most of the animals are being transferred to another lorry and the driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Commander David Doherty said earlier that 30 firefighters were at the scene - with appliances from Dungannon, Portadown and Armagh - as well as two animal rescue teams.
