Co Tyrone GAA club, Strabane Sigersons has called on present and past members to join a search for former player, Jordan Gallagher who is missing.

It’s understood Mr Gallagher, who is in his early twenties, was last seen on Saturday evening close to his Ballycolman home in Strabane.

A major cross-border search was launched along the banks of the Mourne and Foyle on Sunday following reports that someone may have entered the river.

The area around Lifford Bridge was closed for a period on Saturday as part of the emergency operation. More than 50 people have been patrolling the banks of the two rivers in a co-ordinated search.

Strabane search group, Community Rescue Service, has been joined by the Foyle Search and Rescue organisation from Derry. Volunteer numbers have been augmented by friends and family of the missing man as well as a large number of Sigersons’ GAA club members.

Appealing for help on social media, Strabane Sigersons said Mr Gallagher was a “friend and former club player”. A club spokesman asked members to join the search which is being coordinated by Mr Gallagher’s family.

The missing man’s family appealed to people to gather at a local car park on Monday morning.

In a Facebook post, the family said: “Please everyone wear warm clothing and suitable footwear, also hi-vis vest/clothing if possible.

“Also keep in mind that as much as we want Jordan home, please be mindful of your own safety on the river banks. Let the sun that rises tomorrow be the one to guide you home.”
