Items taken away for examination

Police are investigating after a suspicious device was thrown at a house in Co Down.

A number of items were taken away for examination after the incident at Firmount Crescent in Holywood shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

The device caused a small fire which was later put out by firefighters.

The Old Holywod Road was closed between Clarehill Lane and Knocknagoney Road but later reopened.

Officers remained in the Firmount Crescent area to carry out enquiries.

A spokesman for the PSNI said they are “appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at around midnight” to contact them.
