Man arrested after 1.1 million euro cannabis haul found in van

Revenue officers discovered the drugs concealed in a consignment of bottled water and garden supplies arriving at Dublin Port on a ferry from the UK.

A man has been arrested after cannabis worth more than 1.1 million euro was found in a van at Dublin Port.

Revenue officers discovered 55kg (121lb) of herbal cannabis concealed in vacuum-packed packages within a consignment of bottled water and garden supplies arriving on a ferry from the UK on Wednesday.



Gardai arrested a man, in his 50s, after the drugs haul, with an estimated street value of 1,106,000 million euro, was seized.

The man is currently being questioned under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, and can be held for up to seven days.

Investigations are continuing.

Revenue said the seizure is part of ongoing joint investigations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
