The seizure took place on Sunday May 19, when 4,715kgs of illicit Flandria tobacco was discovered in a trailer coming from Zeebrugge in Belgium, with the assistance of a detector dog. The haul represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €2,919,000 (£2,486,843).
Sunday’s operation was part of Revenue’s ongoing targeting of the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy.
Revenue investigations are ongoing.
