€4 million of illicit tobacco seized at Dublin Port

Operation part of Revenue’s ongoing targeting of the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy

Revenue officers at Dublin Port have seized rolling tobacco with an estimated value of €3,888,000 (£3,312,382) in an intelligence-led operation.



The seizure took place on Sunday May 19, when 4,715kgs of illicit Flandria tobacco was discovered in a trailer coming from Zeebrugge in Belgium, with the assistance of a detector dog. The haul represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €2,919,000 (£2,486,843).

Sunday’s operation was part of Revenue’s ongoing targeting of the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy.
