Cookstown construction group McAleer & Rushe has signed a six-year extension to its sponsorship deal with Tyrone GAA.

It will make the Cookstown-based construction group the longest serving sponsor of the county since the GAA changed its rules around sponsorship in 1991.

That title currently belongs to Aghyaran businessman Willie John Dolan, whose name spent a decade on Tyrone shirts from 1994 until 2003, when Tyrone lifted Sam Maguire for the first time.

The new six-year deal with McAleer & Rushe is also expected to become one of the most lucrative sponsorship arrangements signed by Tyrone GAA since the 2003 deal with Rocwell, worth a reported €700,000 at the time.

McAleer & Rushe returned as the Red Hand County’s main shirt sponsor in late 2021, signing a two-year deal, which was later extended to four years.

In that time, Tyrone has lifted three all-Ireland under 20 football titles and one all-Ireland minor football championship.

McAleer & Rushe previously sponsored Tyrone GAA for three seasons between 2015 and 2017.

The latest deal will see the McAleer & Rushe and MRP brands continue to adorn Tyrone GAA shirts until the end of the 2031 season.

McAleer & Rushe also sponsor the Tyrone Ladies GFA, who captured the all-Ireland intermediate title last month.

Founded in 1967 by Seamus McAleer, the Co Tyrone construction group is jointly owned with Eamonn Laverty, who joined the firm in 1971.
