The Irish News has maintained its position as the UK and Ireland’s top-selling regional daily newspaper, new figures show.
Data from from the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), which monitors the sale of most newspaper publications, shows that in the first six month of 2025, the Irish News had an average overall daily circulation of 20,857.
That equates to more than 125,000 newspapers every week, and half a million copies a month.
Irish News editor Chris Sherrard said: “When I took over as editor of this great and historic title, I was extremely aware of not just its pedigree but its position as the best-read regional daily newspaper in the UK.

“Every day since has been about maintaining that status whilst looking to the future and putting a plan in place to achieve long-term success and widen the Irish News’s appeal beyond that traditional audience.
“The validation comes every single day when the readers decide whether what we’re doing is worth their hard-earned money, so we are delighted that they continue to support and back us to the extent that they are doing.”
He added: “Our ABC figure represents a hell of a lot of people who tell us they are prepared to put their hand in their pocket for our journalism every day - and we are humbled and proud of these figures.
“We know the industry is facing seemingly endless headwinds so we must navigate those whilst maintaining the standards that we have set and which our readers have come to expect from us.
“A huge credit goes to our dedicated and hard-working team of journalists and editors who continue to raise the bar, set the news agenda and inform and inspire audiences young and old.”
The Liverpool Echo remains the best-selling English title according to the ABC figures with an average daily sale of 9,008.
