Coleraine-based manufacturer Maine Surface Finishing has secured planning approval for a new £10 million facility.
A specialist provider of steel fabrications, protective coatings and final assemblies to the north’s equipment manufacturing cluster, the company was founded in 1997 by Eugene Dixon.
Maine Surface Finishing’s plan for a new factory complex at Wattstown Business Park was originally announced as part of an Invest NI-backed expansion four years ago.
Invest NI pledged £1.5m to support the move, which the company said would involve the creation of 155 jobs.
The manufacturer said the new facility was part of its ongoing expansion plans.
Planning approval for the project, which involves a new fabrication, assembly and R&D facility, alongside new offices, was issued on May 2 2024, just over three years after the full application was submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.
Maine Surface Finishing originally entered the planning process with a proposal of application notice (PAN) in October 2020.
The latest available accounts for the company show it employed 248 people at the end of 2022.
Maine Surface Finishing’s turnover grew to £32m in 2022, more than double its turnover from 2019.
The company recorded a pre-tax profit of £2.3m in the same period.
The Coleraine manufacturer was recently included in a list of the 100 fastest growing companies in the UK.
Maine Surface Finishing was one of just four Northern Ireland companies to make it into the Growth Index 2024.
The planning approval comes twos after Armstrong Medical secured planning approval for an £8m factory expansion at Wattstown Business Park.
