A man was arrested in Derry on Wednesday following a search linked to a probe into New IRA activity

A 42-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the activities of the New IRA dissident group.

The man was arrested following a search in the Derry area on Wednesday and taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Belfast's Musgrave Police Station for questioning, where he remains.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their patience and continued support and assure them that we will continue to listen to and act on any information they provide us.
