THE mother of a teenage boy struck by a car in a suspected hit-and-run in north Belfast has shared images of the injuries he sustained in the terrifying ordeal.

Theresa Marley's 17-year-old son Eamonn suffered leg and arm injuries after he was hit by a car in the Oldpark Square area in the early hours of Sunday.

She said he had been left in a "lot of discomfort and pain" since the incident at around 1.20am.

It came as footage emerged on social media of a grey Vauxhall Zafira, believed to have been involved in the alleged hit-and-run, being driven dangerously in the Oldpark Road and Ardoyne Avenue area prior to the incident.

It shows the vehicle being driven erratically at a group of youths, some of whom were forced to jump over railings to escape being hit.

The car was later found burned out in the Cliftonville Road area at around 4.15am.

Police were last night continuing to question a 30-year-old woman.

She was arrested on suspicion of arson, aggravated taking and driving away, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

In a statement issued through SDLP councillor Paul McCusker, Ms Marley said her son's had suffered mental as well as physical injuries.

"Our family has been left extremely shaken by this incident, especially my son Eamonn who is in a lot of discomfort and pain," she said.

"I would like to thank everyone for all their well wishes.

"My son's physical scars will heal however, mentally he has been left with a much deeper scar.

"The individual involved should take responsibility for their despicable actions which could have left my son dead, by using their car as a weapon."

The teenager was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, but was later released. However, he will have to return to hospital for further treatment.

Mr McCusker added: "I will continue to ensure police and statutory bodies take this serious and have an urgent coordinated response.

"I hope Eamonn has a speedy recovery. He’s in everyone’s thoughts."

Police have appealed for witnessed to the hit-and-run to contact them.

PSNI's Sergeant Greg Dawson said: "We would appeal to anyone who saw this car being driven erratically, witnessed the hit-and-run incident or has mobile phone or dashcam footage of either to get in touch with police on the non-emergency number 101".
