STARS from hit TV comedy Young Offenders have given their support to an annual charity run to raise vital funds for Irish cancer research.

PJ Gallagher, Chris Walley and Alex Murphy, who play headmaster Brian and teenage terrors Jock and Conor in the RTE/BBC Three production, launched this year's Colour Dash.

Colour Dash is the Irish Cancer Society's annual charity run. The 5K races will take place in Galway, Dublin, Limerick and Cork on different dates in June and all money raised will be used to support cancer patients and fund vital cancer research.

PJ Gallagher said: "Colour Dash is a fantastic opportunity for families in Ireland to enjoy a fun day out, while helping the 40,000 people who will get a cancer diagnosis this year.

"We all know someone who has been affected by cancer, and I lost my dad to the illness. Sign up now at cancer.ie/colourdash and help raise crucial funds for cancer research and support for cancer patients and their loved ones."

Since 2016, more than €600,000 has been raised through Colour Dash and other fundraising events co-ordinated by Aldi, which sponsors the event.

Averil Power, chief executive of the Irish Cancer Society, said: "As the number of Irish people with cancer increases, record numbers are turning to the Irish Cancer Society for information, care and support.

"Only two per cent of our funding comes from the state. We are therefore hugely dependent on money raised through events like Colour Dash."
