A YOUNG Co Fermanagh man killed in a road crash was last night described as a "lovely young fella" whose death had shocked the close-knit community he had grown up in.

Luke Lynch (22) from Newtownbutler died in the one-vehicle collision close to the Co Fermanagh village on Sunday evening. He was the driver of the blue Peugeot 206 which crashed on the Clones Road at around 8.45pm.

Police said two other men, both aged in their 20s, who were passengers in the blue Peugeot 206 were taken to hospital. One man remained in a critical condition last night, while the other suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Tributes were last night paid to Mr Lynch, a former pupil of St Comghall's, Lisnaskea, following his tragic death.

Sinn Féin councillor Thomas O'Reilly said Mr Lynch's death had left the community stunned.

"All three are known locally and have grown up in the village," he said.

"I have known Luke through youth club and other activities in the village, his family are just part and parcel of the community.

"He was a lovely young fella, a quiet young man who was well-known in the area. He was a big part of the community and his family, I know, are devastated by his tragic death.

"Such a young life taken too soon, his friends will have awoken this morning to this terrible news.

"To go out with two of your friends and for this to happen is absolutely devastating, this is going to be a massive shock to his friends and his family."

A friend of Mr Lynch last night also described his death as "absolutely heartbreaking".

Meanwhile, police have appealed for information following the death of a pedestrian on the M1 motorway near Belfast.

The woman died close to a bridge at Dunmurry Lane on Saturday shortly after 10pm.

It is understood the woman took her own life.

PSNI Inspector John Millar appealed for information from anyone travelling in the area at that time to contact them.
