FROM the church to the election booth, one Westminster candidate will be casting her vote in her wedding dress.

Sorcha Eastwood will wed Dale Shirlow on June 8 - the same day she is due to contest the election for Alliance.

Engaged since 2009, the couple have been planning their big day from last August.

However, they got the shock of their lives when the snap general election was called by British Prime Minister Theresa May last month.

But undeterred by the election and wedding day clash, Ms Eastwood said she will still be casting her vote after she takes her vows.

The 31-year-old, who is running for Alliance in West Belfast, said she will call at the polling booth at Brownlee Primary School, Lisburn, which is just minutes away St Patrick's Church where the couple will marry.

"I need to squeeze it in after the ceremony before I get my photos and greet my guests, " she told The Belfast Telegraph.

"I have given so much of myself to this process already and my partner has been so supportive, it would be a shame not to vote."

Ms Eastwood also said it had been a hectic few weeks, combining her election campaign with last minute wedding preparations.

"I can't wait for the wedding day, just to get a rest," she said.

A big screen has been organised at the Killyhevlin Hotel in Enniskillen, where their wedding reception will be held to allow the happy couple and their guests to watch the early projections as the votes come in.
