Police are investigating a sudden death on the railway line in Co Antrim

POLICE were last night investigating a sudden death on the railway line in Co Antrim.

Emergency services were called to the scene between Cullybackey and Ballymena yesterday morning. Police later said the line was closed due to a sudden death.

A PSNI spokesman said: "The rail line has been closed following the incident and is expected to remain closed for some time.

"There are no further details at this stage."

Translink said several train services had been delayed.

DUP North Antrim assembly candidate Phillip Logan said: "This is very sad news for our community as today a family will be mourning the loss of a loved one in such tragic circumstances.

"I want to express my deepest sympathies to those involved. My thoughts and prayers are with them today and all those impacted by this news.

"It is important to pay tribute to the emergency services who attended the scene."
