A man who died in a workplace accident just weeks after being married has been described as "one of the most amazing and kindest people" by grieving relatives.

Jonathan Peden (33), who was from Donaghcloney, Co Down, died at Little Electrical Engineers in Lurgan yesterday morning.

Paying tribute to the popular runner, his brother Adam said he was "my first idol in life".

The tragedy comes just four weeks after Mr Peden celebrated his marriage to wife Roisin, with the couple also recently having moved to Craigavon.

An investigation has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive.

Adam Peden wrote on Facebook of the family's devastation.

"My amazing older brother’s life was taken away this morning," he said.

"The most shocking news I have ever received, Jonathan was one of the most amazing and kindest people, and for his life to be taken just like that is heartbreaking.

"Never will he not be in my thoughts, my friend, my oldest brother, my first idol in life.

"I love you big bro, just wish I could tell you that."

In a statement, Little Electrical Engineers said a "tragic accident" had claimed the life of a "very valued and long standing member of our team".

"Little Electrical Engineers is a small, closely-knit family business which has been established for many years at Queen's Place, Lurgan.

"This morning's accident has left us all in a state of shock. This is the first time an accident of this nature has occurred and it is all more painful because it is the death of a much-loved and respected member of our staff."

Mr Peden regularly took part in Craigavon's weekly Parkrun, with event organisers also expressing their shock on social media.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Jonathan's family and friends and his wife Roisin at this sad time. RIP JP - City Park Parkrun will not be the same without you".

DUP assembly member Carla Lockhart said: "I knew him and his family well and was speaking to him only a few days ago. I pray that God will sustain them through the difficult weeks and months ahead.

"Following the incident this morning I have attended the scene and spoken to the owners of the company who are a very well-respected family business in Lurgan.

"There is absolute devastation at this tragedy."
