The mother of a teenage GAA player found dead in bed as she tried to wake him for school has described him as "an amazing, selfless son."

Talented GAA player Daryl Comac was found dead by his mother Mairéad at their home in Dungannon on Thursday morning.

It is understood the alarm was raised after she was unable to wake him for school at their home on Carland Road.

There has been widespread shock in the local community since news of his death broke.

A Year 12 student at St Patrick’s Academy in Dungannon, he was studying for his GCSEs.

The 16-year-old loved Gaelic games and played football for Killyman St Marys GFC.

He also played hurling for Eoghan Ruadh hurling club in Dungannon and lined out for them at Croke Park at under-14 level.

His devastated mother Mairéad paid tribute to her son last night.

"He was an amazing, selfless son who would have done anything for anyone said with a big heart so full of love for everyone, especially his family and fiends," she said.

She said her son’s death has left "a massive gap in my life."

"He lived for his football and team mates and he loved wheeling and dealing, a real entrepreneur," she said.

"He would have put a smile on your face with his one liners and witty charm."

His older brother Nathan described him as "so full of love and life" and said "I will miss him dearly."

His grandfather Sean O’Hagan said he "could not have wished for a better, amazing grandson."

"He had a smile that would brighten the worst of days," he said.

"I will miss him terribly."

Requiem Mass for Daryl will take place on Monday at 10am in St Patrick’s Church in Dungannon and he will be laid to rest afterwards in Carland Road Cemetery.
