PENSIONERS have been targeted in a spate of burglaries.

A man in his eighties was left shaken after burglars ransacked his home in the Parkfield area of Crumlin between Thursday night and Friday morning.

Burglars forced open the back door of the house and also ransacked an adjoining garage.

The man only realised his house had been targeted when he woke up yesterday morning.

Police do not believe anything was taken.

Detective Sergeant Neil Maxwell appealed for help in catching the burglars.

"We are keen to hear from anyone with information about this crime or anyone who was in Parkfield at any time overnight and who might have seen something that could help the investigation," he said.

The burglary came after an elderly couple were left traumatised when a gang broke into their home in east Belfast.

Four men dressed in black and wearing gloves pushed their way in to the house at Park Parade.

The pensioners were forced to stay in the living room while their property was ransacked. The men later made off with some cash.

The elderly couple were not physically hurt but have been left badly shaken, police said.

The burglary happened on Thursday however, details have only just been released.

On Sunday, an elderly woman was tied up and had rings pulled from her fingers by a masked gang at her home on Grand Parade, also in east Belfast.

Last month a couple in their eighties were targeted by four robbers in Bangor, Co Down.
