Three people have been hospitalised after a late-night knife brawl on a Dublin street.

One man was seriously injured and two suffered slash wounds in the fight at around 10pm on Sunday on the South Circular Road.

Gardaí later arrested a man and two women.

Witnesses reported that up to eight men and women were involved in a brawl that led to the stabbings.

Meanwhile, a Dublin councillor has called for a dedicated Garda unit for the Republic’s public transport system after teens were involved in a violent row on a Dart train.

The train had to be stopped after a fight erupted between a large group of youths on the northbound service at Salthill and Monkstown stations at 9.30pm on Sunday.

Fianna Fáil councillor Cormac Devlin said similar outbreaks of violence are taking place on Luas lines and on “many” bus routes, leaving the public feeling unsafe.
