Coosan - Cuasán - the hollow

Be prepared for some Beckettian allusions as the Bluffer prepares for Happy Days in Enniskillen in a few weeks time.

Last year, he saw Lisa Dwan's stunning video performance of Not I in the Marble Arch Caves, a 9-minute race through one woman's lifetime. Lisa is from Coosan, a suburb of Athlone in County Westmeath - as is footballer Dessie Dolan.

Coosan reflects the changes the Celtic Tiger brought to Ireland. Its population grew from around 400 in the 1990s to nearly 5000 at the last census.

It is almost completely surrounded by Loch Rí/Lough Ree, the second largest lake on the Shannon. There is an island in Lough Ree where Queen Maeve, she of Táin Bó Cuailgne fame, was killed so it is a place steeped in history, mythology and the present day.
