Case 3: Harry Fitzsimmons, Liam Rainey, Thomas Tolan and Gerard McCrory

THE IRA kidnappers had been due to appear in court for sentencing in 2006 when they breached their bail conditions and went on the run.

The four had been arrested in Belfast in February 2004 after police stopped a van at the Millfield junction with the Falls Road in Belfast.

Inside the vehicle was dissident republican Bobby Tohill, who had been abducted from a bar and badly beaten.

McCrory and Tolan were arrested in January 2007 on the A1 near Hillsborough on the A1.

Fitzsimmons was detained in Dundalk in November 2009, while Rainey was arrested in May 2011.

During their time on the run police refused to release a likeness or basic description to help the public identify them, leading to claims of a deal between republicans and the PSNI. n KIDNAPPERS: Forensic officers investigate the van which was rammed by police in Belfast leading to the discovery of abducted dissident republican Bobby Tohill in 2004
