Pokemon Go will allow users to track their steps and ultimately hatch eggs even when the app is idle for the first time.

The new feature, Adventure Sync, connects to the native health and fitness apps on both iOS and Android devices.

It enables the apps to record walking distances and tally them to in-game features.

Until now players have needed to have the app open to earn points from their movements.

“Adventure Sync will deliver a weekly summary, where you can see your Incubator and Candy progress as well as important activity statistics,” Pokemon said in a post on the upgrade.

“Check in via your Trainer Profile to see the number of kilometres recorded for the week.

“Earn rewards each week for each milestone you cross and receive push notifications when your Buddy Pokemon has found a Candy or when an Egg is about to hatch.”

Users will have the choice to link the new feature to either the Apple Health or Google Fit apps as a way of literally taking steps towards incubating their eggs.
