Google Maps has added a function on its app that allows users to find wheelchair-accessible options for travel.
The option is currently available in six cities, including London, and aims to make travel easier for people who need an accessible route on public transportation.
Google said: “We built this feature to make life easier for people who use wheelchairs, but accessible routes are also helpful if you’re on crutches or pushing a stroller.
“We’re making progress toward a more accessible world for everyone.”
In addition to the new feature, Google has been working with local guides around the world to help provide accessibility information in Google Maps. This includes information such as whether a place has a step-free entrance or an accessible bathroom.
The accessible routes feature is available in London, New York, Tokyo, Mexico City, Boston, and Sydney.
The technology giant said it is also looking to work with other cities and transit agencies in the coming months to expand this feature.
To find accessible routes, type your destination into Google Maps. Tap “Directions”, then select the public transportation icon. Then tap “Options”, and under the routes section you can find “wheelchair accessible” as a new route type.
