Phoebe Waller-Bridge was given a standing ovation by an A-list West End crowd after performing her one-woman show Fleabag.

The writer and actress was met with a wall of applause as her virtuoso monologue came to an end.

Bohemian Rhapsody star and Oscar winner Rami Malek was standing clapping in the stalls as Waller-Bridge mouthed “Oh my god, thank you” to the West End audience.

Co-stars Fiona Shaw and “sexy priest” Andrew Scott were in the cheering crowd, along with Lauren Laverne and novelist Neil Gaiman.

Labour MP Stella Creasy also enjoyed a night at the theatre on the day the prorogation of Parliament was announced.

Waller-Bridge bashfully took three bows on the small stage at Wyndham’s Theatre in London, where press had gathered with the stars to watch the acclaimed show.

The theatre production was the basis for the critically acclaimed TV series that has won actress and writer Waller-Bridge plaudits on both sides of the Atlantic.

It first previewed in London in 2013 before going on to have a successful run at the Edinburgh Festival.

The material was then adapted into the hit 2016 TV series, followed up in 2019.

Waller-Bridge was hailed by the crowd, who seized the opportunity to see the star during a limited run in London.

Fleabag runs in the West End until mid-September, when the actress and writer will fly to the US to host Saturday Night Live alongside musical guest Taylor Swift.

Her hit character will however return in the form of a book, Fleabag: The Scriptures.

It will “feature new writing by Waller-Bridge alongside the complete filming scripts of seasons one and two, including the never-before-seen stage directions”, publishers said.

Fleabag runs at Wyndham’s Theatre until September 14.
