England’s 5-1 win in Germany in 2001 will live long in the memory of fans of the Three Lions, but can the same be said of Emile Heskey?
The former Liverpool and Leicester striker played a pivotal part of the 2002 World Cup qualifier, starting the game and scoring England’s fifth goal, and the FA thought they would put his memory to the test.

Impressive stuff – after struggling a little in defence, Heskey named the entire XI, and didn’t fall into the trap of forgetting himself either.

Further to that, it wasn’t all plain sailing for Heskey on a personal level, seen here having treatment on a knock.
But the number nine completed a sublime turnaround for England, who went 5-1 ahead courtesy of three from Michael Owen, one from Paul Scholes, and another from himself.
