Swansea have appointed Paul Clement as their third manager of the season.

Many of you may remember Clement’s first job as manager – an ill-fated stint at Derby County which ended in 2016 after just eight months – but here’s a few things you may not have known the 44-year-old Englishman.

1. He’s from a family of footballers

Clement’s brother is former West Brom defender Neil Clement who retired in 2010, and his father is former Queens Park Rangers and England defender Dave Clement.

It’s fair to say their family five-a-side team would be pretty solid at the back…

2. He used to be a PE teacher

Clement used to work as a PE teacher at Glenthorne High School in Surrey.

To keep alive his family’s footballing tradition though he got a part-time job at Chelsea’s academy and his upward trajectory since then must have his former pupils stunned.

3. He got his coaching licence in 1999

Clement received his UEFA “A” coaching licence way back in 1999 before qualifying as a full-time coach a year later.

Despite this, Clement has only had one job as manager.

4. He’s got a heck of a CV

(Nick Potts/PA)

As an assistant, Clement has excelled.

Working as number two to Carlo Ancelotti, Clemenet has worked at Chelsea, Paris St Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Whilst in Paris, the team won the Ligue 1 title and in Madrid the men in white bagged a Copa Del Rey and a Champions League.

5. He’s been destined for British football for some time

Before landing the Derby job back in June 2015, Clement was linked with QPR and Sunderland.

After his poor stint with the Rams, his appointment as Swans manager seems to have an air of unfinished business about it.
