VOLKSWAGEN has just added a new Black Edition model to the current Golf line-up.
Priced from £31,985 (on the road, including VAT), the Golf Black Edition is on sale now and slots into the range between the R-Line and GTE models. As usual with VW’s popular Black Edition models, this one comes loaded with plenty of desirable interior and exterior options plus some exclusive noirish features to help it live up to its none more monochrome moniker.
Obviously, the car is only available in black, while a Black Edition ‘Style Package’ comprises an illuminated strip between its headlights, recessed and illuminated door handles, black exterior mirror caps and LED Plus headlights. The car also comes with exclusive 18-inch black ‘Bergamo’ alloy wheels only available on the Golf in its Black Edition spec.
Interior-wise, you can have any colour, so long as its Anthracite – a dark grey hue which means, rather disappointingly, that the answer to the question ‘how much more black could the Golf Black Edition be?’ is ‘slightly more black’.
Additional equipment above R-Line spec includes a Winter Pack (heated fronts seats and door mirrors), rear-view camera, front sports seats, rear tinted glass, R-Line body-coloured bumpers and interior ambient lighting with 30 colour options.
Adding these optional extras to a standard R-Line model would cost £2,900, but opt for a Golf Black Edition instead and you’ll save yourself £1,400.

Engine-wise, the Golf Black Edition is available with a choice of three different petrol-based powertrains, including one exclusive to the trim.
- 1.5 TSI 150 PS with six-speed manual gearbox
- 1.5 eTSI 150 PS mild hybrid with seven-speed automatic direct-shift gearbox (DSG) (priced from £33,805 OTR)
- 2.0 TSI 190 PS with seven-speed DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel drive (exclusive to Golf Black Edition, priced from £36,320 OTR)
The Golf Black Edition is available with a £2,000 deposit contribution and a 6.9-per-cent personal contract plan (PCP) from Volkswagen Financial Services.
