Northern Ireland's most popular car so far this year is Hyundai's Tucson SUV, with 496 registered by the end of April.

According to figures from trade body the SMMT, another SUV - Ford's Puma - is our second favourite, with 404 registered - a mere two units ahead of the third-placed Ford Fiesta.

Other SUVs and crossovers swamp the top 10, including the Kia Sportage (396), Volkswagen T-Roc (391), Nissan Juke (386), Nissan Qashqai (296) and - though these models arguably really stretch the genre - the Toyota Yaris Cross (283) and Renault Captur (274).

In a sign of changing times, the seventh-placed Ford Focus (311) is the lone traditional family hatchback in the top 10.
