VOLKSWAGEN has just launched a new 'fully loaded' version of its luxury Touareg SUV, writes David Roy.

Having already announced that a revamped version of the Touareg is due to arrive this summer - described by VW as "a comprehensive technical and visual update" with redesigned front and rear end treatments incorporating IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights and an illuminated rear VW badge, plus an enhanced chassis - the catchily named Touareg R-line Tech Plus seems aimed at shifting remaining stock of the current model by offering customers a new range-topping value-for-money trim level.

The R-line Tech Plus comes with around £5k of additional comfort and on-board technology options over the standard Touareg R-line Tech, but costs just £1,720 extra - £64,520 OTR vs £62,800 OTR.

Extra toys include 21-inch Suzuka black alloy wheels, air suspension, a panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate, 30-colour ambient interior lighting, black roof rails and a heated windscreen, plus all the standard equipment that comes with the existing R-line Tech trim like Vienna Leather comfort seats, 15-inch Innovision cockpit with active info display, heated, leather-wrapped multi-function sports steering wheel with shift paddles, four-zone Air Care Climatronic air conditioning, mobile phone interface with inductive charging, rear tinted glass and Safelock Keyless Access.

The new Touareg R-lineTech Plus is available now for £64,520 with a 3.0 TDI 230hp engine, and £67,200 with a 3.0 TDI 285hp engine - but if you want one, you better move quickly before the facelifted model arrives in a couple of months.
