CITROEN'S new and definitely-not-as-dull-as-the-previous-model C4 family car has gone on sale.

There's an electric version, called the e-C4, which starts at £29,190, including the government's £3k plug-in car grant.

The e-C4 uses a 50kWh battery linked to a 100kW electric motor, which Citroen claims will return up to 217 miles from a single charge.

Half an hour on a 100kW rapid charger should be able to give an 80 per cent charge, while a 7.4kW home wallbox can fully charge a flat battery in seven hours and 30 minutes.

As well as the battery car, three petrol and two diesels are offered, with a choice of manual and automatic gearboxes.

The standard C4 in entry-level 'Sense' trim starts from £20,990. Equipment includes LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels and a 10-inch touchscreen display with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

‘Shine’ trim level – the next in line – adds tinted rear windows, additional safety equipment including speed limit information and adaptive cruise control and keyless entry too. This specification starts from £26,390.

Finally, ‘Shine Plus’ brings a premium audio system with subwoofer, as well as black leather upholstery, electric adjustment for the driver’s seat and additional USB sockets. Shine Plus starts from £27,590.
