LAND Rover says the new Defender Hard Top is the "most rugged and durable commercial vehicle on sale now".
That's a big claim, considering the rough-and-tough pick-ups that also fit in this category.
However, the Hard Top - reviving a name that dates back to 1950 and the original Land Rover - offers something a bit different from those 4x4 trucks, blending their rugged ability and towing capacity with van-like cargo space.
The short-wheelbase 90 Hard Top has a volume of 1,355 litres while the 110 long-wheelbase model has 2,059 litres.
The load bay is fully lined in rubber and has a bunch of lashing points and hooks, a lockable underfloor storage compartment and a fixed full-height bulkhead behind the front seats.
Both 90 and 110 get diesel engines, an eight-speed automatic gearbox and the same suite of off-road hardware as the passenger Defenders.
The 90 Hard Top costs from £35,820 ex-VAT, with the 110 Hard Top priced from £43,012 ex-VAT.
